Everything about VAT Validation
Which database is checked?
VIES, the EU system for confirming VAT identification numbers. You receive validity, company name, address and evidence with a timestamp.
Does the check also return a risk assessment?
Alongside validity, the check returns an assessment of the country of registration from three open sources: the EU VAT gap, the Transparency International corruption perceptions index and the investigation density of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, each with its own scale. That is a country signal, not a verdict on the company you checked.
What happens if VIES is unavailable?
The API reports the status of the check. Unchecked cases can be routed in a workflow to retry or manual review.
Why do I need the tax quote?
For B2B sales of software or appointments without Stripe Tax: it calculates VAT or reverse charge depending on country and validity of the ID.
Can I validate my customer base?
Yes, via the batch endpoint or as a workflow that validates and flags new contacts automatically.
What does a call cost?
From €0.01 per request. €1 equals 1,000 credits and the same prices apply in app, API and MCP. No subscription, no base fee.
Can I use the API directly in the browser?
Yes. With a publishable key you call the API from your web app without your own server. The key is restricted to your domains.
Where are requests processed?
