How many working days does 2026 have in Germany?
Working days 2026 by federal state
With a five-day week from Monday to Friday, 2026 has between 252 and 254 working days, depending on the state. The Day of German Unity, Reformation Day and Boxing Day fall on a Saturday in 2026, All Saints' Day and World Children's Day on a Sunday, so they cost no working day.
- 252 working days: Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria
- 253 working days: Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt
- 254 working days: Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia
Holidays that apply only in parts of a state
In Bavaria, Assumption Day is a holiday only in municipalities with a predominantly Catholic population, and the Peace Festival only in the city of Augsburg. In Saxony and Thuringia, Corpus Christi applies only in certain municipalities. You can switch these days on in the calculator.
Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve
24 and 31 December are not public holidays in Germany. Many companies still give them off. Switch the days on in the calculator if they are days off for you.

Questions about the working days calculator
Are the start and end dates included?
Yes. When counting, both days are included if they are working days. For "Date + working days", the start date itself is not counted.
Is Saturday a working day?
That depends on the purpose. German labour law often treats Saturday as a working day (Werktag), while most companies do not. Select the days of the week on which work takes place.
Which holidays does the calculator know?
All public holidays of the 16 German states since 1995, including newer ones such as International Women's Day in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania or World Children's Day in Thuringia.
How many working days does a month have on average?
With a five-day week it is about 21 working days on average. The calculator shows the exact number per month in the monthly overview.
Can I use the calculator for legal deadlines?
Legal deadlines under German civil law or civil procedure follow their own rules, for example when a deadline ends on a weekend. Use a deadline calculator for those and have important deadlines checked legally.
