Patriarchate of Lisbon
The Patriarchate of Lisbon, custodian of centuries of religious and cultural history, embarked on a landmark digitization project to preserve and share its invaluable archives.
The Situation
The Patriarchate of Lisbon holds archives spanning over 500 years, including baptismal records, marriage certificates, historical correspondence, and unique manuscripts. These documents are invaluable for genealogical research, historical studies, and cultural preservation.
Physical degradation threatened many documents. Researchers had to visit in person, and finding specific records in the vast archives could take days. Many documents were too fragile to handle.
With increasing global interest in Portuguese genealogy and history, the Patriarchate needed a way to make records accessible while protecting the originals.
We are guardians of 500 years of Portuguese religious and cultural history. Our duty is to preserve it for eternity and share it with the world.
