Security and compliance Keys
Tokens belong in the environment variable PAPEROFFICE_API_KEY, never in commits. The cookbook ships a .env.example for this.
Least privilege
A group token (po_gt_) limits code and agents to the workspaces of one group. The MCP server rejects po_sk_ and po_pk_.
Effect up front
Every MCP tool description starts with READ-ONLY, WRITES DATA or DESTRUCTIVE, so the model knows the effect before it calls.

Documents are processed in our own EU data center, wherever your code or agent calls from.

Which license does the code use?
Cookbook, MCP setup, skills and plugins are under the MIT license. You may copy, adapt and use the code commercially. Use of the API itself follows your PaperOffice AI plan.
Is there an SDK?
There is no dedicated SDK package. The REST API only needs HTTP and JSON. The cookbook shows every call in Node.js, Python and curl, and the llms.txt describes all endpoints so that an AI editor can generate the code.
Which token do I need?
A user token (po_ut_) sees everything your account sees, a group token (po_gt_) only the workspaces of one group. Both work for REST and MCP. System keys (po_sk_) only work for REST, publishable keys (po_pk_) only for browser widgets.
How do I connect Claude Code?
As a plugin with /plugin marketplace add paperoffice-ai/paperoffice-skills and /plugin install paperoffice-skills@paperoffice. Add the MCP server with claude mcp add --transport http paperoffice https://mcp.paperoffice.ai/dms.
How do I connect Cursor or Windsurf?
With the Cursor plugin or an MCP configuration with the URL https://mcp.paperoffice.ai/cursor and the header Authorization: Bearer po_ut_…. Ready-made files are in paperoffice-mcp-setup.
What does it cost?
The code is free. API calls are billed in PaperOffice AI credits, at least 5 credits per billable call. Job status checks, /health and /docs are free. A Free plan account is enough to try it out.
Where do I report bugs?
As an issue in the respective repository on GitHub. Support answers questions about your account or the API.
Where is the data processed?
Documents that your code or agent sends to PaperOffice AI are processed in our own EU data center. The repositories contain no customer data.
