Installation
Five steps to a running installation.
The setup walks you through every step. Allow about 15 minutes, a little more for a database on a NAS.

Download the installer
Download the setup with the button below. It is the same package for every edition; you choose language and release when it starts.
Run it with a Windows account that has administrator rights.

Start the setup, exclude it from antivirus
Double-click the EXE and confirm the security prompt with “Yes”. Add the installation folder (default: C:\PaperOffice) to your antivirus exclusion list.
In most support cases the antivirus scanner blocks PaperOffice components — the exclusion saves you the troubleshooting.

Choose the database
The wizard asks where your database should live: locally on this PC, on a NAS or on your own server running MariaDB. For a first trial the local database is enough.
For a team with several workstations the NAS is the proven route — the setup is described on the NAS page.

Save the MasterKey
Every database gets its own MasterKey made of a certificate and a key. Store both parts in two different places — without the MasterKey the database cannot be opened, not even by us.
Zero knowledge: the key exists only on your side.

Sign in and get started
Create your user account and sign in. The trial licence is now active. After buying, enter the serial number under “Options” → “Manage licence” — done.
To extend the trial, simply create a new, empty database.
Database
Where should your documents live?
PaperOffice Classic stores everything in a MariaDB that you run yourself. Three routes, none of them forces you into the cloud.
On the NAS
QNAP, ASUSTOR or Synology with the MariaDB package. Every workstation uses the same database — the standard setup for teams.
Your own server
Windows or Linux server, VPS or cloud instance with MariaDB 10. For terminal servers and sites with many users.

Database: MariaDB 10 (recommended), MariaDB 5.5 or MySQL 5.5/5.6/8 with legacy authentication. macOS is not supported; on a Windows terminal server PaperOffice Classic runs for several users.

The trial becomes your licence — no reinstall.
In the shop you buy one TEAM licence per user account. Invoice, certificate of authenticity and serial number arrive by e-mail right after payment.

Is the trial limited?
No. You test the full feature set of the TEAM licence for 14 days. The trial licence is activated automatically on first installation.
Can I extend the trial?
Yes. Create a new, empty database and connect your user account to it — PaperOffice issues a fresh 14-day trial licence for it. Disconnect your account from the existing database first.
What happens to my data when I buy?
Nothing is lost. You enter the serial number under “Options” → “Manage licence” and keep working with the same database.
The installer aborts or components are missing — why?
Almost always the antivirus scanner. Add the installation folder (default: C:\PaperOffice) to the exclusion list and run the setup again. Alternatively, extract the package manually into the folder and start it via com.paperoffice.launcher.exe.
Do I need a NAS or server for the trial?
No. For the trial the local database on the PC is enough. Move to a NAS or server later, when several workstations need to share the same documents.
Does PaperOffice Classic run on macOS?
No. PaperOffice Classic is a Windows application. For macOS, Linux, tablet and smartphone there is PaperOffice AI as a web application in the browser.
How do I install a specific release?
In the first step of the setup you pick the version under “Release”. With PaperOffice PLUS you always install the latest release; without PLUS the release your licence covers.
