Key, node, event.
There is no dedicated n8n node. You connect n8n through standard nodes to the REST API, the MCP server and webhook subscriptions. This takes basic knowledge of HTTP and JSON.
Connect the nodes
The HTTP Request node calls POST /job/add/{pipeline}. The result arrives in the same response or, after HTTP 202, via GET /job/get/{job_id}. An AI agent in n8n uses the MCP Client with https://mcp.paperoffice.ai/dms.
React to events
From Professional: create a Webhook node with a public production URL and subscribe via POST /webhooks/subscribe, for example to document.processed. Every delivery is signed with HMAC-SHA256.

- Every documented endpoint
The HTTP Request node reaches every documented REST API endpoint, such as POST /job/add/{pipeline} for OCR, IDP, PDF, translation and voice.
- Result directly or by polling
With client_wait, the result arrives in the same response. On HTTP 202, a loop polls GET /job/get/{job_id} until job_status reports completed.
- Events to n8n
From Professional, a webhook subscription reports document.processed, document.edited, document.tag_added and further document events plus task.completed to your Webhook node.
- Fields included
document.processed carries pofid, workspace_id, document type, key_fields such as invoice number, amount, due date and sender, plus the extracted fields.

po_sk_ and po_ut_ belong on the server or in the n8n credential store, never in browser code or shared exports.
Signature
HMAC-SHA256 over the raw body, plus event ID, subscription ID and attempt number in the header of every delivery.
Target addresses
Only http and https to public addresses. Private networks, localhost and metadata hosts are blocked.
Data location
Documents are processed in our own EU data center. What n8n stores stays wherever your instance runs.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about n8n and PaperOffice
Is there a PaperOffice node for n8n?
No. There is no dedicated node, no ready-made credential and no published templates. You work with the standard HTTP Request, Webhook and MCP Client nodes against the documented REST API and the MCP server.
Which key do I need?
You create it in the app under Account → API. For REST you use po_sk_ or po_ut_, for MCP po_ut_, po_gt_ or OAuth 2.1; the MCP server rejects po_sk_ and po_pk_. A confirmed email is enough. The API is available in every plan, Free included.
How does n8n learn that a document is ready?
Through a webhook subscription, from Professional. You subscribe to document.processed with the production URL of your Webhook node. The delivery carries pofid, workspace_id, document type, key_fields and the extracted fields. For jobs that n8n starts itself, you poll GET /job/get/{job_id}.
Which events can n8n receive?
document.processed, document.edited, document.deleted, document.version_created, document.note_added, document.tag_added, document.comment_added, document.lifecycle_changed, document.legal_hold_placed, document.legal_hold_released, document.generated and task.completed. You check the end of an API job via job/get.
Does my n8n instance have to be publicly reachable?
For webhooks, yes. PaperOffice delivers only via http or https to public addresses and follows no redirects. Private addresses, localhost and metadata hosts are blocked. For calls to the REST API and the MCP server, n8n only needs outbound access to api.paperoffice.ai and mcp.paperoffice.ai.
Can I create webhook subscriptions in the app?
No. You create webhook subscriptions via the API with POST /webhooks/subscribe or with the MCP tool po_webhooks_subscribe. POST /webhooks/test sends a test.ping to your Webhook node.
How do I verify that a delivery comes from PaperOffice?
Every delivery carries X-PaperOffice-Signature with sha256= and the HMAC-SHA256 over the raw body. The secret comes with the response to the subscription. You can also have your own header sent along and switch on Header Auth in the Webhook node.
Can an AI agent in n8n use PaperOffice?
Yes, through the MCP Client with the server URL https://mcp.paperoffice.ai/dms and the Streamable HTTP or SSE transport. Sign-in runs via OAuth 2.1 or a po_ut_ or po_gt_ token. Which tools are available depends on your plan.
Can n8n send business data to PaperOffice?
Yes, from Plus. Under Knowledge Base AI you create a business data source of the type Push (ingest URL). n8n sends orders, shipments, invoices or quotes as JSON, at most 500 records per call and 60 calls per 10 minutes per source. Chat and phone agents read this data from Professional and write nothing back.
Are there limits on calls?
Yes. Every plan allows at least 5 calls per second, 30 per minute, 100 per hour and 500 per day per key, and paid plans allow more. Polling loops count too, so plan pauses of 5 to 10 seconds.
Does this also work with Make or Zapier?
Yes, with the same pattern: the HTTP module in Make, Custom Request in Zapier against the REST API, and an MCP client against https://mcp.paperoffice.ai/dms for AI agents. There are no dedicated apps or modules for Make and Zapier.
Where is the data stored?
Documents that n8n sends to PaperOffice are processed in our own EU data center. What n8n stores itself stays wherever your n8n instance runs, self-hosted or in n8n Cloud.
