A website source reads the public pages of one host, starting from a start URL. Each page becomes an internal article in the knowledge base you choose.
Set the scope
Up to 2000 pages and link depth 6, plus path prefixes, exclude patterns and CSS areas that stay out of the article. For pages that need JavaScript, choose Auto or Full.
Check and assign
Crawl now starts the first run. Indexed pages shows the status and reason for every URL. Then you assign the knowledge base to your agent.

- One host, many pages
From the start URL the crawler reads public HTTPS pages, optionally via a sitemap and further entry points. Everything stays on the same host, with or without www.
- Your rhythm
Every 6 or 12 hours, daily, weekly, every 14 days or monthly. Crawl now starts a run right away.
- Set the scope
Up to 2000 pages per source and link depth 6. Path prefixes and exclude patterns limit the URLs, and URLs with a query string or list paths such as /tag can be skipped.
- JavaScript too
Fast reads HTML only, Full renders in a browser, Auto switches by itself when a page stays empty. A click selector opens FAQ accordions, for example.
- Internal articles
Each page becomes an internal article in the chosen knowledge base, with the page URL as source and the detected language. It does not appear in the help center portal.
- The website's rules
noindex and robots.txt are respected. If an indexed page is blocked later, the crawler withdraws its article.
- Changes only
A content hash detects changed pages, unchanged pages are not rewritten. Pages that disappear are withdrawn after two runs without a hit.
- Catalog with reasons
Indexed pages shows status, reason, render mode, HTTP code and last fetch for every URL. Plus a sync history per source.

Questions about website sources
Which pages does a website source read?
Public HTTPS pages of one host, starting from the start URL and optionally via a sitemap and further entry points. It reads HTML. Linked PDFs, images and other files are not taken over, and neither are pages behind a login.
How current is the agent's knowledge?
As current as the last run. You choose the interval from every 6 hours to monthly, and Crawl now starts a run right away. When answering, the agent does not fetch the website live.
How many pages and sources are possible?
Up to 2000 pages per source, with 200 preset, and up to 25 sources per account. There is a one-second pause between two pages, so large sources take some time.
What happens when a page changes or disappears?
The next run detects changes by content hash and rewrites the article. Your own edits to a website article are lost in the process. Pages that disappear are withdrawn after two runs without a hit and become active again when they return.
What about knowledge that is not on the website?
Add it as a separate article in the same knowledge base, for example your company holidays.
Which agents answer from the website articles?
The Conversation Agent on the phone and in the website chat, when the knowledge base is assigned to it. In the web app also the chat agent, when you pin the knowledge base there as a source. In customer answers the page title and link are kept, so the agent can refer to the page.
Do the pages appear in the help center?
No. Website articles are internal, for your team and your agents. They do not appear in the help center portal automatically.
Which plan do I need?
Website sources are part of Knowledge Base AI and are available from the Plus plan. They are set up in the web app, and there is currently no public API for them.
