Frequently asked questions about this download
What happens without an ip parameter?
The API checks the address of the connection, which is the caller's IP. When you call from your backend, pass your visitor's IP explicitly in the ip parameter.
Can I send a hostname instead of an IP?
Yes. The API resolves the hostname and records in the _hostname_resolved field which IP address it checked.
How do I detect VPNs and proxies?
Use /ip2location/full or /ip2location/vpn. The response flags VPN, proxy, Tor and data center in separate fields. See the VPN Detection datasheet for details.
Can I call the API straight from the browser?
Yes, with a publishable key (po_pk_) that has the utils:lookup scope. Set the scope in allowed_scopes when you create the key via POST /publishable_keys/create; the key is bound to your domains.
