Calculate the end of a deadline under the rules of the German Civil Code (BGB) – with weekends and public holidays per federal state, notices sent by post and presets for objections, appeals, lawsuits and withdrawal.
Calculate German legal deadlines with public holidays.
Since 2025, a letter is deemed notified on the fourth day after posting (Section 122 (2) AO, Section 41 (2) VwVfG). State law may differ.
Event-based: the day of the event is not counted. Day-based: the first day is counted.
The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Your entries are not sent to us.
How it works
Pick a preset such as an objection or an unfair dismissal lawsuit, or enter your own deadline.
Enter the day of service, receipt or posting and choose the federal state.
Check the result and how it was calculated, and add it to your calendar.
Most deadlines start with an event, such as the service of a notice or the receipt of a dismissal. The day of the event is then not counted (Section 187 (1) BGB). A two-week deadline that starts with service on a Monday ends on the Monday two weeks later.
If the period starts at the beginning of a day, for example with the start of a lease, that day is counted (Section 187 (2) BGB). A one-month period from 1 November then ends on 30 November.
If the matching day does not exist in the last month, the deadline ends on the last day of that month: a one-month deadline after service on 31 January ends on 28 February (Section 188 (3) BGB).
If the deadline ends on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, it ends on the next working day (Section 193 BGB, for court proceedings Section 222 (2) ZPO). What counts are the public holidays at the place where the deadline must be met – that is why the calculator asks for the federal state.
If an authority sends a notice by ordinary mail, since 2025 it is deemed notified on the fourth day after posting (Section 122 (2) AO, Section 41 (2) VwVfG). Only then does the objection period start. For tax assessments, if the fourth day falls on a weekend or public holiday, it moves to the next working day.
